Amelia Haney’s (b. 1994) practice is routed in time, presence and the simultaneously eternal and fleeting awe found in nature. Working primarily in oil paint, Amelia approaches the canvas with an intuitive language of movement and energy while embracing the impulsive, lyrical marks that serve as imprints of her remembered and imagined landscapes. Martha Jungwirth, Joan Mitchell, Zao Wou-Ki and Manoucher Yektai are important references. Playing with abstraction and hinting at botanical forms, her paintings are both examined and gestural, growing from her ritual morning walks through the fragrant paths of Sausalito and blooming into verses pulled from her sister’s poems. Amelia lives in pursuit of nature’s beauty and strives to create work that echos the life-affirming awe it holds.
